Melatonin is a hormone produced by the pineal gland in the brain and is most well-known for its sleep promoting effects along with controlling the body clock.

The researchers found that 3 mg of melatonin given each night for 6 months restored menstrual cycles and fertility in premenopausal women and menopausal women. The researchers concluded, “The six-month treatment with melatonin produced a remarkable and highly significant improvement in thyroid function, positive changes of reproductive hormones toward more juvenile levels and abrogation of menopause-related depression.”

These are fascinating findings because through the use of melatonin we are allowing the body to correct its own hormone imbalances. Unfortunately, the production of melatonin by the brain begins to diminish dramatically beginning around 55 years of age. This loss can be offset by taking a melatonin tablet (or improved version, MelaCinn) each day.
